Oscar Grant Family files Civil Suit against BART for Wrongful Death & Civil Rights Violations
Civil suits against BART by family of Oscar Grant were in the works from the moment the murder of Oscar Grant became public. The family’s suit charges wrongful death and Civil Rights violations by BART police and others implicated in the case. There was an initial $25 million law suit but the dollar amount increased to $50 million as more evidence surfaced. See link for current Grant civil suit:

Friends present on New Years file Civil Suit against BART for Wrongful Death & Civil Rights Violations
Friends present who had to experience Oscar’s death were also assaulted by BART police and subject to Civil Rights violations. Only some of Oscar’s friends had the legal basis (such as physical proof of injury or detention) to file lawsuits, but this joint action represents all of the young people victimized by BART police and others involved in the case.
